History
CAMERON FURNACE COMPANY LIMITED was formed in 1974 by William Martin and William Atkinson to provide refractories installations and maintenance services to industry.
Both partners had many years experience in the refractories industry having come from a trades’ background through an era when the skills of traditional tradesman were necessary to negotiate the intricate designs within a diverse and effervescent industrial atmosphere. From the outset, their training, knowledge, experience and customer satisfaction had ensured that they were in a strong position to cope with the ever present and existing competition, allowing them to establish the Company on a solid foundation whilst encouraging a gradual programme of growth.
As part of this foundation they, because of their personal skills in the industry, were able to attract the superior tradesmen of the day into Cameron Furnace Company, a policy which has stood the test of time enabling the Company to maintain its clients up to the present day. Several of the personnel within the Company today have been there since its inception, thus being in a position to pass on this experience to others who are involved in the Company’s apprenticeship and training scheme.
In 1983, the present owner, Alan Martin, a B.Sc. graduate in Mechanical Engineering, joined the Company having completed post graduate training and work experience in industry as a design engineer and Projects Manager for several years and for a number of companies in Scotland. The move to the Company facilitated its growth together with broadening the technical base from which its future was to rely. With the extensive range of specialists’ products being developed by manufacturers, coupled with the advance and sophistication of industry in general, technical astuteness was a prerequisite for a successful future.
By 1988 both the founders had all but retired from the business, leaving Alan Martin to take up the reins, although his father William remained available as consultant for several years. The Company under Alan’s control broke new ground with an increased order book making its presences felt in all the traditional industries as can be seen from the enclosed information detailing its comprehensive experience over a wide spectrum. Many significant contracts were won resulting in long term involvements as Term Contractors with a number of multi-national organizations.
Larger premises were acquired in 1991 to facilitate the increasing demand for precast manufacture of special blocks and shapes along with the abilities to receive bulk deliveries of materials plant and equipment. A further move in 2007 was made to the Company’s present location.
