Iron & Steel

Cameron Furnace Company has since its inception been involved in every aspect of the Iron and Steel industry carrying out the many and varied functions required both in the repair & maintenance and new installation sectors. Many items of plant have been serviced including Reheat furnaces, Soaking Pits, Roller Hearth furnaces, Stress Relieving furnaces, Convertors and ladles involving several disciplines such as Bricklayers, Platers, Welders, Joiners, Scaffolders and semi-skilled mates.

The enormous variety of work in this sector necessitated the use of most refractory materials such as traditional brickwork, monolithic blockwork, castable concretes, gunmix concretes, mouldable plastics and ceramic fibres, all of which were carefully assessed and allocated to suit the particular operational criteria of the furnace being serviced. The majority of the repair work generally had to be undertaken at specific shutdown periods usually during annual and public holiday times which resulted in large volumes of work being carried out in a relatively short period of time to ensure that loss of production is kept to an absolute minimum.

Such was the success of the Company at the Corus UK Scottish Plants at Dalzell and Clydebridge that we have a daily presence on site undertaking preventative maintenance and ongoing repairs. This had the result of minimizing down time, thus initiating savings. The work is currently undertaken using a composite squad of labour, which embraces all the skills required, operating as a team, all of whom have an intimate knowledge of the requirements for the job. The working relationship between Client and Contractor has to be fluid to ensure the integrity of the operation, so the success of our venture with Corus UK rewarded us by being chosen to represent Dalzell Works as the safest and most efficient service contractor in their National Award Scheme in 1997.

One of the major considerations working in this sector is the surrounding environment and proximity of ‘live’ furnaces. A sound Health and Safety strategy has to be maintained at all times to ensure the welfare of the operatives involved while all the activities of the production are taking place during maintenance of other units. We at Cameron Furnace Company are fastidious about Health and Safety at work and subscribe to the view that a safe environment is an efficient environment.

Our staff has many years of service within the Iron and Steel industry both in the United Kingdom and overseas.
